About Chargeback Code
Who writes Chargeback Code, who it is for, and where its reason code facts come from.
- Published
Chargeback Code is for merchants who got a chargeback notice. Find the code on the notice. The page for that code says what the cardholder claims, what proof answers it, and what happens next.
Where the facts come from
Every rule here comes from the card networks' own papers. We use the Visa Core Rules and Visa's dispute guide for merchants. We use the Mastercard Chargeback Guide and the American Express disputes guide. Visa's older codes come from Visa's own older rules, kept in a public archive. We check each fact against its source before a page can use it.
Card rules change. So we leave out deadlines and fees, which change often. We explain how each code works instead. Your notice or your card processor has the current dates.
How the pages are written
Software helps draft each page. Then rules check it and reject any claim that is not in our fact list. A person decides what the site covers and looks over what goes live.
What this site is not
Chargeback Code is not a law firm. It is not a payments company. Nothing here is legal or money advice. For a choice about a dispute, talk to your card processor.
